The Road Development Authority has informed that the street restaurants (Street Foods) that have been running in the Thalawathugoda Kimbulawala area will be removed today (08).
The shop owners say that although they have given a written notice in this regard, the reason for the removal of their shops has not been specified.
Earlier also, these outlets had been informed to withdraw.
Madura Vithanage Minister and Member of Parliament Mr. Namal Rajapaksa had given instructions to run these stores properly.
Despite this, the shop owners claim that they have been notified to withdraw the shops for the third time.
A large number of people who have lost their jobs due to the serious economic collapse faced by the country with the Covid epidemic have established street restaurants in this Kimbulawala area that start in the evening and run at night.
This gradually created this street as a tourist area where local and foreign tourists flock to the restaurants.
