The 2024 budget proposals have been approved at the Cabinet meeting held today (13) in the morning.
The second reading of the Appropriation Bill for the year 2024 or the ‘Budget Speech’ is scheduled to be presented to the Parliament today (13) at around 12.00 pm by President Ranil Wickramasinghe as the Minister of Finance.
According to the Appropriation Act of 2024, the total government expenditure is approximately Rs. 7,833 billion out of which Rs. 3,861 billion have been allocated.
Also, in the 2024 financial year, in the authorization to receive money from within or outside of Sri Lanka, the limit of the loan money obtained in relation to the year 2024 has been specified not to exceed 3,900 billion rupees.
After submitting this Appropriation Bill to the Parliament (first reading), it was submitted to the Finance Committee of the Parliament and the related approval was received on the 9th.
