India has expressed interest in providing 10 locomotives to this country.
The locomotives will be received in Sri Lanka as loan assistance.
Railway General Manager WADS Gunasinghe said that before bringing them, a group of Railway Department officials are going to India for a quality check.
Due to non-availability of engines, train running has been hampered.
He mentioned that even though the old engines were repaired and put into service, passengers were inconvenienced due to mechanical failure in various cases.
