Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says that an independent international investigation team should carry out a comprehensive investigation into the facts of the report program presented by Britain’s Channel-4 channel, claiming that it is a special revelation about the Easter attack.
Although the government is ready to appoint a parliamentary committee to look into this matter, the cardinals have pointed out that it cannot be expected that these investigations will be carried out impartially and honestly through that committee.
According to the announcement, the local investigation team that will be appointed to support the international investigation team should include who conducted the initial investigation at the time of the Easter Sunday attack, and are currently transferred to different areas.
Britain’s Channel-4 released a controversial video last night (05) regarding the Easter Sunday attack in Sri Lanka.
The nearly 50-minute program tried to say that the Easter attack was planned by several parties for a political revolution.
The program was heavily quoted by Azad Maulana, who was the spokesperson for the political group represented by MP Sivanesanthurai Chandrakanthan aka Pillaiyan, Minister of State for Rural Road Development.
Azad Maulana is currently seeking political asylum in Switzerland due to financial charges in this country.
A statement by Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith was also included in that program.
Below is the announcement issued today by His Holiness Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.
