    The water crisis is an emergency – An emergency committee from the PM

    Considering the current need of drinking water in the country as an emergency situation, the relevant ministries have jointly decided to implement an urgent program through an emergency action committee.

    That is according to a decision taken at a special meeting held yesterday (22) at the Parliament complex under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

    This committee includes the Ministries of Water Supply, Irrigation, State Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

    The committee consists of the secretaries of the above three ministries under the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Secretary.

    Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena advised to involve all related institutions.

    Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and Irrigation Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Minister Jeevan Thondaman, Water Supply State Minister Sanath Nishantha, Members of Parliament Vasudeva Nanayakkara, ALM Athaullah, Sudarshan Denipitiya, Jagath Samarawickrama. Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake and many senior officials of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Irrigation, the Ministry of Water Supply, and the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority joined the discussion.
