A obstacle in vehicle import will be removed

Minister of State for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that he will immediately intervene to solve the problems arising in the issuance of letters of credit based on the permission given to import buses used for public transport and lorries and trucks required for special purposes.

The minister indicated that he is ready to work to resolve the issue related to the international recognition of Sri Lanka’s letters of credit.

The minister said this in a discussion with the vehicle importers.

There, the importers mentioned that due to the various measures taken due to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, a situation has arisen where letters of credit are not accepted internationally.

They said that even though permission was granted for the import of several categories of vehicles including public transport buses, their importation has become problematic.

There, the Minister mentioned that he will discuss this matter with groups including the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and act to provide the necessary solutions.

The Minister further mentioned that they will investigate the possibility of issuing government guarantees for the relevant letters of credit.
