Sri Lanka’s first french fries processing factory has opened.
Since no factory in our country produces French Fries, which is a popular food not only in this country but also in the whole world, about 3500 million rupees are drawn annually to foreign countries for their import.
Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that this factory, built with the aim of producing what can be produced in our country, will use the potatoes of 250 potato farmers in the area.
The production of french fries under the Mr. Farmer label joins our market as a value-added product for potatoes.
Fresh, quality French Fries made from potatoes grown in our country are 100% local products.
The minister said this while inaugurating this factory in Kahattewela Sri Sangharaja Piriven Precinct, the first agricultural model village in Sri Lanka, which was started after he was appointed as the Minister of Agriculture in 2018.
Although this effort is small, the minister said that this is a giant step in the production process of the country. He also expressed his gratitude to the SAPP, IFAD projects, the Ministry of Agriculture, and everyone who worked hard to implement this program.

It’s a great idea. They should open more factories to produce various other products without importing from overseas. This is a great break first implementation. Yet I cannot understand why for every thing whether related to political meetings or any opening new functions why these Buddhist priests. Why can’t they be in the temples and do their job.
Great innitiative! Should expand its capacity targeting export markets and diversify into other categories such as potato chips.
