A crucial discussion today about a land that is an obstacle to providing electricity to the South

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka says that today (11) a consolidation discussion will be held regarding the land that is an obstacle to connect the electricity transmission system in the southern province with the national system.

The commission said that the discussion was called by a committee appointed for that purpose.

The officials of the Electricity Board and the owners of the respective land have been called.

The construction of a 220 kilowatt power line system to provide electricity to the south has now reached its final stage, but it has not been possible to connect it to the southern province due to the compensation demanded from the government by an owner of a private land where the cable system runs for a distance of 600 meters.

Although the Electricity Board recommended payment of 16 lakh rupees for the land, the amount demanded by the land owner is 96 lakh rupees.

Due to this situation, an electricity capacity of 220 kilowatts has not been able to be transmitted to the south and when the Samanala Lake reservoir dries up due to dry weather, electricity has to be purchased from the private sector.
