Kalmunai Police officers have arrested an 18-year-old mason who was stealing and using a motorcycle that was a case item in the Kalmunai Magistrate’s Court.
The police say that the suspect was arrested along with the motorcycle within a few hours of the complaint being filed by the case-item manager of the court regarding this theft.
This motorcycle was arrested with two people while transporting drugs on August 18, 2022. The two persons are currently on bail, and one of them has filed an appeal to release the motorcycle from the court’s custody. The court did not release the motorcycle without the registered owner, as the registered owner of the motorcycle was another person.
Therefore, the police say that this person went to the court premises in the afternoon on the day before the Ramazan last April with the spare key he had and started the motorcycle and took it away.
This motorcycle, which was in the court’s custody since August 19, 2022, had been stolen last April, but the case-item custodian came to know about it on June 7. It was during a census of case items. After investigating for a long time what happened to the motorcycle, the case manager finally informed the police on the 5th.
A senior police officer mentioned that since the concerned person had come to the police and tried to rescue the motorcycle on several occasions, and because of his recent silence on the matter, the Police headquarters commander in Kalmunai had some doubts. Accordingly, the he has informed the station commander of the crime division to go to the person’s house and conduct an inspection.
Accordingly, when the officers of the criminal division of the Kalmunai Police went to the suspect’s house residing in Kudi, Kalmunai, they found the motorcycle parked in front of the house. The police officers who took the motorcycle into their custody have arrested him for stealing a court case item. During questioning, he said that he went to the court premises and brought the motorcycle. It has been revealed that the police as well as the security guards of the court, were present at the court premises at that time, but no one examined him.
This suspect is going to be produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate’s Court.
