The Pothuvil Police have arrested 09 suspects involved in the attack on Udalawatte Ratnapriya Thero in Pothuvil Muhudu Maha Vihara, who is said to have been meditating in a cave.
All the 09 people arrested are fishermen residing in Pothuvil.
It has been revealed that the attack took place as a result of an argument between the fishermen and the monk.
The attack took place on the 28th. Udalawatte Rathnapriya thero, who was injured in the attack, was admitted to Pothuvil Hospital and was transferred to Ampara Hospital for further treatment. The police said that he was not seriously injured.
He complained to the police that while he was meditating in a stone cave in Athimunei, Maduraveli, a group of people attacked him with an oar at that place.
