    Founder of Galle Kotuwe Kade,Manjari and Lady J business network passes away

    Mr. J.G. Sumanapala, who was a renowned businessman in the country, the founder of the Galle Kotuwe Kade, Lady J and Manjari business network, has passed away.

    He was 75 years old when he passed away yesterday (12).

    Jamburegoda Gamachchige Sumanapala was born in Weligama. The eldest in a family of nine, he studied at Jamburegoda College and later at Sri Sumangala College, Weligama.

    Brought up in a business environment since childhood, Mr. Sumanapala initially engaged in other industries and after his marriage with Ms. Dharmalata, they started their fashion business in the YWCA (Youth, Women, Christian Association) building in Galle.

    The name ‘Kotuwe Kade’ was applied by the people themselves to that business which was run with the good intention of selling a product for as low a price as possible, providing a job to someone and getting only a small profit. Later, ‘Galle Kotuwe Kade’ became very popular all over the country.

    Later, the business was expanded as ‘Lady J’ in Punchi Borella, Galle and Nugegoda as ‘Manjari’, using the names of his two daughters namely Jayani and Manjari.

    Currently, those businesses are run by Mr. Sumanapala’s children and nephews. Due to Mr. Sumanapala’s extremely fair business objectives being maintained and maintained, the business has continued to expand throughout the country and today a Lady J shopping complex has spread to Maharagama as well.
