A monk who lived in the Domepe Sri Sankhamanarama temple has passed away after being attacked by a wild elephant near the Sungawila bridge on the Somavathi reserve road.
The monk was attacked by wild elephants while walking from Somavathiya towards Sungawila in the early hours of today.
The police say that his body has been placed in the Polonnaruwa Hospital.
