Former Inspector General of Police Mr. Pujith Jayasundara has appeared before the Supreme Court today (04).
It was for the hearing of the appeal petition submitted by the Attorney General requesting that the decision taken by the Colombo High Court be annulled.
Earlier, the Colombo High Court had decided to acquit the accused of failing to prevent a terrorist attack despite receiving sufficient intelligence that a terrorist attack would take place on Easter Sunday.
The related petitions are scheduled to be heard today (04) before a five-member Supreme Court bench headed by Mr. Prithi Padman Surasena.
A three-judge panel of the Colombo High Court had recently ordered the acquittal of former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, who were prosecuted for the above charges.
The Attorney General has filed an appeal requesting that the order be annulled.
