    LP gas is excluded from essential items – Wheat flour is included

    The government has taken steps to remove liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or LP gas) from the list of Specified Goods and include wheat flour as an essential item.

    The Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety Mr. Nalin Fernando has issued the relevant gazette notification.

    Accordingly, wheat flour has been included as a Specified Good with effect from the last 16.

    The removal of LP Gas from the said list has been done by the gazette notification issued on that day.

    According to the definition of the Consumer Affairs Authority, and the opinion of the Minister, any product or service which is essential to the livelihood of the people is published in the gazette, and that product or service is designated as ‘Specified Goods’ or ‘Specified Services’ as appropriate.

    Accordingly, the gazette announcement related to removal of LP gas and inclusion of wheat flour from the list of specified goods is given below.
