A consignment of medicines and medical supplies provided by Hope Worldwide with the intervention of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC, America, is scheduled to be landed in Sri Lanka on the 2nd.
Its value is more than 2.74 million USD.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States Mr. Mahinda Samarasinghe, who engaged with donor organizations in the United States earlier this year, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Heart to Heart International, Hope Worldwide and Americares for their generosity towards Sri Lankans in dire need.
So far, three consignments of medicines have been sent to the Ministry of Health.
The total value of the 4 medicines stocks is over 12,645,150 USD. At today’s exchange rate, this is approximately Rs. 4.6 billion (exactly Rs. 4,588,925,697).
The ambassador also intends to continue to work with humanitarian organizations and agencies to get assistance for the country’s vulnerable populations.
From last July to October, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in America is working together with well-known American humanitarian organizations to provide free medicines and medical supplies to Sri Lanka.
At the beginning of July 2022, Heart to Heart International donated 02 aid packages worth 9.131 million USD to Sri Lanka.
The value of aid sent to Colombo by Americares in September was more than 773,000 million USD.
The Ministry of Health, which receives these aid stocks, will provide detailed reports on the recipients and destinations of these drugs and medical supplies to the aided donor agencies.
