Chris Silverwood is the new head coach of Sri Lanka Mens’ Cricket

Former England head coach Chris Silverwood has been appointed as the new head coach of the Sri Lanka national team. Silverwood has been named England’s new head coach following the departure of Trevor Bayliss, who coached England to victory in the 2019 World Cup.

Mr. Silverwood was the head coach and Trevor Bayliss was the bowling coach when England was crowned ODI World Champions.

The new head coach of Sri Lanka, who has played six Tests and seven ODIs for England, has represented Yorkshire and Middlesex in the provincial cricket tournament. The 47-year-old Silverwood is a world-renowned coach who has been able to build a team with young players.

After ending his playing career, Mr. Silverwood chose a coaching career and his first position was with the Masonland Eagles in Zimbabwe. After leading the Eagles to the Logan Cup in the first leg, Silverwood was appointed head coach of the Essex County Cricket team. Since that appointment, Mr. Silverwood has been instrumental in the promotion of the Essex County team, leading Essex to a state championship victory that it had not won in 25 years since his first appointment.

Mr. Silverwood will take charge of the Sri Lankan team from their tour of Bangladesh in May. Silverwood, who has been the head coach of the Sri Lankan team for two years, was the head coach of the England team for the 2021 Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2021. Joe Root’s England beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in the tournament.

“We are delighted to have Chris as head coach of the national team. He is an experienced coach and discussions with him have shown that he has the potential to take the national team forward, ”said Ashley de Silva, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Commenting on the opportunity to work with the Sri Lankan team, Chris Silverwood said, “I look forward to going to Sri Lanka and working with the team. They have a talented and enthusiastic team and I look forward to meeting them and the coaching staff soon and getting started. ”
