The Elections Commission states that a gazette notification will be issued today (24) to submit applications for the registration of new political parties.
At present, there are 79 registered political parties in the country.
Among them, about six registered political parties with legal issues are considered inactive political parties, said the Chairman of the Election Commission, Attorney-at-Law Nimal Punchihewa.
