Showers will continue in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, Northern Provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (08) and tomorrow (09), the Met Department said.
In the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in some places in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Districts, extreme levels of rainfall over 150mm are expected.
Also in the North Western and Northern Provinces and in some places in the Matale, Galle and Matara Districts there may be showers over 100mm.
Meteorologists are urging people to take necessary measures to reduce the risk of temporary strong winds and thunderstorms.
They say that the increase in rainfall is due to the influence of the wind converging zone which is currently near the island.
