Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya has been awarded the ICCROM Award, the highest award available in the field of Heritage Management.
Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya has been awarded the ICCROM Award 2021 for his contribution to the field of cultural heritage both nationally and internationally and his invaluable contribution to the development of ICCROM.
Mr. Wijesuriya, a renowned architect and archaeologist, was presented with the award on October 26, 2021 at a ceremony held at ICCROM in Rome.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Wijesuriya said that this was an opportunity to recognize the unique human society that has shaped the entire field of heritage management.
Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya served as the Head of the Conservation Division of the Department of Archeology for 18 years and also served as a member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Archaeologists.
