The company announced today that the Pfizer vaccine is also actively operational in bodies of children between the ages of 5 and 11.
The company also said they expect U.S. approval to soon vaccinate this age group.
The vaccine, developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, is now available to anyone over 12 years of age.
But now that children are going back to school and the Delta strain is making a big leap in pediatric infections, many parents are waiting for their little ones to be vaccinated.
Pfizer vaccines were tested with very low doses on elementary school-aged children.
They were given one-third of the current vaccine dose.
After their second dose, children between the ages of 5 and 11 developed antibody levels against the corona virus, as did adolescents and young adults, said Dr. Bill Gruber, senior vice president of Pfizer.
The company says that these children may or may not experience temporary side effects such as fever or aches and pains in the hands that teenagers experience, but it is only temporary.
Accordingly, the dose proved to be safe for children in that age group, he said.
