A senior BBC presenter, Maryam Moshiri, has apologized for showing the ‘middle finger’ during a live telecast.
Seconds before delivering her news statement during the live telecast, she made a gesture with her middle finger when she thought the camera was not on her, which was also caught live on air.
She said that she did it as a personal joke to her colleagues in the studio.
The event was broadcast live by the BBC for a few seconds as she did this at the same time as her announcement began after the BBC theme music played.
Although this was a mistake, many people have criticized that it is not appropriate action of a senior announcer and have also asked her to be removed. A large number of others have commented in her favor.
The gesture of someone extending the middle finger is considered to convey some kind of insulting meaning.
