Sudan’s food crisis worsens

0

A severe humanitarian crisis has emerged in Sudan due to ongoing conflicts. The food crisis has become very serious.

Mr. Rein Paulsen, the official of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, said that 18 million people, which is about 40% of the Sudanese population, are suffering from lack of food. He also pointed out that if urgent intervention is not done, large-scale hunger will spread throughout the country.

Providing subsidies to more than 10 million Sudanese has become a goal of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization by 2024. The cost of that organization is 104 million US dollars. Mr. Rein Paulsen mentioned that by now about 10% of that amount has been arranged.
