Artificial Rain to Control Air Pollution in Delhi

Indian media reports that the Indian government hopes to create artificial rain to remedy the severe air pollution in New Delhi.

Accordingly, Indian scientists are expecting to create artificial rain targeting the areas around New Delhi by November 20. By then, conditions are expected to be sufficiently cloudy and humid, said Manindra Agrawal, a scientist at the Indian Institute of Technology.

Agrawal also stated that for this overall project, it will cost about one hundred and twenty thousand US dollars to spray a mixture of salts containing iodine into the clouds in an area of one hundred square kilometers.

“We don’t expect a cloud so big that it covers the whole of Delhi. But a cloud that covers an area of about a hundred kilometers is enough for this purpose,” he told the media.
New Delhi is the most polluted city in the world and has the same population as the entire population of Sri Lanka.

Every year, as the cold season approaches, the air pollution level in New Delhi increases and it develops into severe smog conditions. The situation is the same this year and due to this, the New Delhi authorities have taken steps to grant holidays to schools and impose restrictions on vehicle movement.
