Authorities say 20 people have died and many others have been injured after two trains collided in eastern Bangladesh.
The accident occurred yesterday afternoon at Bahirab, 80 kilometers north-east of Dhaka city, when a cargo train collided with a passenger train. The railway authorities have stated that a fault in the signaling system may have caused the accident.
With the train accident, a large number of people traveling in the passenger train were trapped between the train carriages and some of them died on the spot, according to Bangladeshi media reports.
Bangladeshi authorities have already started an investigation into the incident, the country’s media further states.
Many railway lines in Bangladesh are not properly maintained and a large number of people use the train daily. Therefore, train accidents are very common in the country.
