Parliament approved Janaka Rathnayake’s removal from office

The resolution related to the removal of the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission Mr. Janaka Ratnayake from that position has been passed by 46 majority votes in the Parliament today.

123 votes were received in favor of that resolution and only 77 votes were received against.

He was accused of delaying the commission’s approval of a proposal brought by the government to increase the electricity bill, which was a final condition to obtain the extended credit facility of the International Monetary Fund.
