9 who opposed the Thissa Vihara festival are in police custody

The Palali police have arrested 09 people, including 04 women, who participated in a protest against the unveiling ceremony of the top of the 100 feet tall Dagaba built at the Thissa Buddhist temple in Palali.

The police say that despite an order from the Mallakam court not to engage in protests, the 9 people were arrested for disobeying the order.

This protest has been led by Mr. Selvathure Gajendran, Jaffna District Member of Parliament of the Tamil National People’s Front. His personal secretary, a lawyer, a journalist, and 09 people related to the Tamil National People’s Front have been arrested.

The police say that Mr. Selvathure Gajendran, Member of Parliament, is holding a sign near the place and is protesting today. A senior police officer said that he was not arrested along with the henchmen because the parliamentary sessions are going on these days.
