Minister tskes a decision on CEB

2

Power Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that he hopes to get approval from the Cabinet to start the separation of generation, transmission and supply processes from the Electricity Board.

The Minister also said that the Ceylon Electricity Board should be restructured at the progress review meeting of the electricity sector held yesterday.

Tariff adjustments are also needed, the minister stressed, and should be accompanied by a plan to reduce the cost of generating more renewables.

CEB has not started or commissioned any new major power plants since 2014.

The discussion also focused on the future ways to revive the renewable energy sector.
