Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane yesterday regretted the lack of reading habit among the MPs amply shown by the low number of books borrowed from the parliamentary library.
He said only 330 books had been borrowed from the library last year.
The Speaker said 122 books were fiction, 94 on political science, 27 on sociology, 11 on economics, five science books, four law books, three books on technology, and one on education.
The Speaker said this shows nothing but a lack of preparedness for debates by the MPs.
