The Police Headquarters has announced that the blue jeep identified as ‘POLISH RABUKKANA’ which is being re-circulated on Facebook, is a photo of an incident that took place about three months ago.
The statement said that a Tata Sumo blue jeep issued to the Sri Lanka Police with the word ‘POLISH RABUKKANA’ on the right door was being driven on the road a few months ago so that the public could understand it as a police jeep.
The Police Headquarters stated that the jeep was not a jeep belonging to the Rambukkana Police Station or the Sri Lanka Police.
However, a person who runs a vehicle sales center in the Wariyapola area has driven a jeep belonging to him under the name ‘POLISH RABUKKANA’ to deceive the public.
The jeep and the suspect were arrested by the Rambukkana Police on March 10, 2021 at Wariyapola and produced at the Wariyapola Police Station, police said.
Accordingly, the suspect was produced before the Wariyapola Magistrate’s Court on 11.04.2021 by the Wariyapola Police Station and further investigations were carried out.
The suspect was released on bail after being produced to the Wariyapola Magistrate’s Court on 13.04.2021.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Wariyapola Police.
