The Supreme Court has declared today (May 08) that the Minister of State for Tourism, National List MP of Samagi Jana Balawega Mrs. Diana Gamage has no legal qualifications to hold a parliamentary seat.

The court said this after hearing an appeal filed by the Court of Appeal challenging the dismissal of a petition against the position of State Minister Diana Gamage as a Member of Parliament.

The appeal was filed by social activist Oshala Herath.

This petition had been submitted requesting a ruling that Mrs. Diana Gamage is not legally qualified to sit in the Parliament of this country as she is a British citizen and a dual citizen.

Although she was elected to the parliament from the SJB, she later supported the government.
