Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition and the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawega, requests the government to return the 15% interest that was previously entitled to the fixed deposits of senior citizens.
Mr. Sajith Premadasa made this request to the Prime Minister in Parliament today.
A number of governments used to give 15% interest on the Senior Citizen Account, but today it has come down to 8%.
The leader of the opposition also requested to return that particular interest as the demand of lakhs of senior citizens is to get the interest they are entitled to.
Often people working in the private sector depend on this interest to survive after retirement.
Therefore, the leader of the opposition, requested today in the parliament to arrange for it to be given again.
