It has been decided to introduce a new variety of rice in the market to meet the existing demand for Nadu rice.
Buddhika Iddamalgoda, chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board, said that ‘Rathu Kakulu’ will be converted into ‘Nadu’ and released in the market under the name of ‘Golden Rice’.
Meanwhile, 37 rice warehouses had been opened all over the island to buy rice.
But only paddy from Hambantota, Ampara and Monaragala districts is being received by the Paddy Marketing Board.
