Veteran writer and emeritus professor Mr. Chandrasiri Palliaguru has passed away today (21).
He was 80 years old at the time of his death and was the Dean of the Department of Mass Communication Studies and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Kelaniya.
He wrote 54 different writings including novels, reviews, translations and children’s books.
Among those writings, ‘Samaja Muhunuwara’ in 1984 and ‘Yatharthaya Saha Nirmana’ in 1994 have been awarded the national Award.
In particular, the book ‘Sinema Siddhantha Saha Vichara’, translated in 1995, became a pioneering work in the field of cinema.
He studied at Matara Rohana Vidyalaya and was the first to receive a university degree from that college.
