In a heartwarming gesture on World Children’s Day, students from Mahinda College, Galle, have set an inspiring example by making 4,000 eco-friendly bags within their school premises. This initiative, spearheaded by Principal Mr. Rusira Maddadumahewage, showcases the students’ dedication to contributing to society and their fellow students.
Unlike the traditional approach of buying items with money, these students opted to craft the bags themselves, demonstrating their commitment to building a better future. With the support of teachers and parents, the students utilized their skills from Home Economics and Practical Technical Skills subjects to create the bags. Remarkably, sewing was done entirely by the students.
This charitable endeavor, a first in Sri Lanka, involved the entire school, emphasizing the values of unity, love, and putting abilities into practice. The bags were distributed as free gifts to approximately 4,000 students of Mahinda College, marking a memorable celebration of World Children’s Day. This heartwarming story serves as a testament to the positive impact of unity and collaboration within the school community.
