Mahindians won the 1st Vazians Super Sixers Cricket Championship

Galle Mahinda College’s first-XI cricket team won the Vazians Super Sixers 2023 championship this (27) evening by defeating Kurunegala Maliadeva College’s team in the final match.

24 leading schools of the country participated in this tournament which was organized for the first time by Wennappuwa St. Joseph Vaz College Alumni Cricket Association. The tournament was held over two days at the Albert F. Peiris Stadium yesterday and today.

In the semi-finals, Mahinda College, Galle, defeated St. Sebastian College, Katuneriya, and Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, defeated St. Thomas College, Matara, to qualify for the finals.

After winning the toss, Maliyadeva team’s skipper invited Mahinda College to bat first. Accordingly, Mahinda College, which created a strong scoreboard, scored 67 runs by losing two wickets in five overs. Pramesh Madhubhashana scored 22 runs in twelve balls and captain Tharusha Dilshan scored 16 runs in seven balls.

Mahindians bowled out all the players of the Maliadeva team for 49 runs in 4.4 overs, who chased a target of 68 runs.

This tournament was organized under the initiative of Wennappuwa St. Joseph Vaz College’s Alumni Cricket Association under the main sponsorship of JF Chicken and co-sponsorships of HB Cricket Equipment. The tournament was live-streamed by papare.com for all the two days.

  • The man of the tournament – Pramesh Madhubhashana (Mahinda College, Galle)

Mahinda College, Galle, which won the championship, won Rs.150,000 and a set of HB cricket equipment in addition to the JF trophy. Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, won Rs.100,000, a set of HB cricket equipment, and the runners-up.

Principal of Wennappuwa Joseph Vaz College, Father Priyanjeeva Gunawardena, Asst. Principal Anura Kamalsiri, President of JF Chicken Mr. Henry Jayawardene, and many distinguished guests representing Joseph Vaz Cricket Association and Joseph Vaz Alumni Association were present with the awarding ceremony.
