Another country bans the Barbie movie

The Algerian government has banned the movie ‘Barbie’, which has become a worldwide craze, three weeks after its release.

The North African country of Algeria has given the reason for the ban as being against morality.

The government has pointed out that the Barbie movie ‘promotes homosexuality and other Western deviance’ and is ‘not compatible with the religious and cultural beliefs of Algeria’.

The country’s Ministry of Culture oversees the content of films screened in cinemas.

The Ministry has the ability to stop the exhibition even during the screening.

The country’s government has asked cinema halls to ‘immediately withdraw’ Hollywood blockbuster film Barbie.

Both Lebanon and Kuwait banned the film last week, citing similar reasons.

A Lebanese minister called on his country’s authorities to ban the film from cinemas for promoting homosexuality and transsexualism, supporting the denial of custody of a father, belittling and mocking it.

Kuwait announced a ban on the film Barbie to protect ‘common ethics and social traditions’, saying it questioned the role of the mother and the need for marriage and family.

The movie Barbie has grossed more than $1.19 billion in worldwide ticket sales since its opening on July 21.
