Musical instruments are burning in Afghanistan

The local media reports that the Taliban organization has burned and destroyed musical instruments in Afghanistan.

It is reported that the Taliban regime has taken steps to burn musical instruments, stating that music causes severe damage to the moral values of Afghanistan.

Accordingly, a special bonfire has been prepared in Afghanistan’s western Herat province to burn musical instruments worth thousands of US dollars. Since coming to power in 2021, the Taliban has imposed many restrictions, including the playing of music in public.

Ahmad Sarmast, the founder of Afghanistan’s National Institute of Music, described the Taliban’s actions as cultural genocide and destruction of music.

“The people of Afghanistan are being denied artistic freedom. The burning of musical instruments in Herat province is just a small example of the cultural genocide taking place in Afghanistan under the leadership of the Taliban,” Sarmast said.

According to the pictures published on the Internet, it can be inferred that the musical instruments that were set on fire included a guitar, serpina and tabla, several drums as well as amplifiers and speakers. It is also noteworthy that most of these musical instruments were seized during weddings in the city.

Regarding the setting of the fire, the officials of the Taliban organization said that the musical instruments “cause the youth to go astray”.

In addition to this, other similar arsons have been carried out by the Taliban throughout Afghanistan, and there is no proper mention of what items were set on fire, according to foreign media.
