Meteorologists have warned multi-day fishing vessels sailing in the deep sea areas of the Arabian Sea to be careful due to Cyclone Biparjoy.

The Meteorological Department advises fishing and marine communities not to sail in the sea area between 07-17 North latitude and 60-70 East longitude until further notice.

The people who are currently engaged in fishing activities in these sea areas are informed to come to land or a safe place immediately.

The fishing and marine community is requested to pay attention to the upcoming announcements issued by the Department of Meteorology.

The depression over the Southeast Arabian Sea has developed into a cyclone and has been named ‘Biparjoi’.

The system has been positioned at 12.5 North latitude and 66.0 East longitude by 11.30pm yesterday (06).

Meteorologists warn that there is a high possibility of Biparjoi developing into a more severe Cyclone in the next 6 hours and moving towards the North.

Due to the influence of this system in the next 24 hours, the wind speed in sea areas between 07 and 17 north latitude and 60 and 70 east longitude will be 70-80 kmph at times and can increase to about 90-100 kmph.

The above mentioned sea areas are very rough and extreme at times. Also, heavy rain or thundershowers may occur.
