Adding a new page to the history of Sri Lanka volleyball, the Tamil Nadu state team, which won the Indian junior men’s volleyball championship, came to Sri Lanka this afternoon for a volleyball test series with Sri Lanka.

The visit of a foreign volleyball team to Sri Lanka is unique in that after 33 years a foreign volleyball team has come to Sri Lanka for a test tournament. The last time was in 1990 when the Ukrainian state team of the Soviet Republic came to Sri Lanka for a volleyball test tournament.

Also, the Indian national team has participated in a Sri Lankan volleyball test tournament in 1982. The history of Indian volleyball in Sri Lanka dates back to 1954. For the first time, an Indian volleyball team visited Sri Lanka in 1954.

That tournament started a new chapter in the history of Sri Lankan volleyball and marked the first visit of a foreign team to Sri Lanka by the Indian Madras Medical College team.

This year’s tournament consists of 5 matches and the first match is scheduled to be held on April 1st at Gampaha Radawana Golden Birds Stadium with the Sri Lankan Junior Men’s Volleyball Team.

The second match will be held on April 2nd at Horana with the Electricity Board team and the third match will be held on April 4th at Muthur, Jaffna against the Jaffna district team.

The fourth match is scheduled to be held at Vavuniya Municipal Stadium.

Arrangements are being made to hold the final match of this tournament on April 6 at the Dambadeniya Public Stadium against the North West United Team.
