There are 04 candidates per 1000 citizens of this country for this local government election.
Chairman of the Election Commission Mr. Nimal Punchihewa said that 80,720 candidates are contesting this year’s local government elections.
Mr. Punchiheva also said that they are competing from 58 political parties and 329 independent groups.
This year, the election will be held for the 339 local government bodies other than the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha and the Kalmune Municipal Council.
Accordingly, compared to the total population of the country, this year there are 04 candidates per 1000 people in this country.
