Kandy Falcon player Chamika Karunaratne, who underwent an operation at Galle Asiri Hospital after the cricket ball landed on his face while saving a catch during the Lanka Premier League match against the Galle Gladiators team, is fully recovered now.

According to the sources of the Kandy Falcon team, Chamika Karunaratne will have the opportunity to play again in the match against the Jaffna team at Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy tomorrow (10).

Chamika Karunaratne was involved in an accident during the match held at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Suriyawewa, Hambantota. Accordingly, he was immediately transported from Suriyawewa by expressway in an ambulance and was admitted to Galle Asiri Hospital and underwent surgery.

He mentioned that,

“I’m happy to be smiling a little after that catch that took out 4 teeth, gave me surgery and 30 stitches on my lip!

I would like to say a heart felt thank you to everyone who did their very best to take extremely good care of me after my accident at last night’s match. The team doctor, the doctors and nurses at Asiri Hospital Galle, the ambulance driver who got me there in record time, the staff who had to look for my teeth out on the field, my team and everyone who prayed for me and wished me well-THANK YOU. I couldn’t thank you enough for making sure that I got the best care possible and urgently too.

After the rough month that it has been with everything that’s been discussed about me on social media, I’m grateful to all those who stood with me, especially yesterday, I realised that people haven’t left my side and they supported me in every way that they could. I will continue to play for the people, I will always continue to fight for the game with everything that I have.

If making negative memes and posts about me makes people happy, that is fine with me, everyone is entitled to their opinion so go for it! It has been a battle but I haven’t taken any to heart. My family and I are built to handle it, however I plead with you to be considerate when it comes to other sportsmen/women as we don’t see the pain and everything else that they have to endure to constantly give their best and they will continuously do so no matter what, no questions asked. So I request the people to stand with all sportsmen/women, just like how everyone supported me today. I truly appreciate it.

Apologies to my people of Hambanthota as I will be resting for the next match but I will be back and ready for Kandy, I will be coming in stronger than ever and bringing my big smile with me, I look forward to seeing you all out there at Pallekele! I will always give my best to the game and I will play for my people and my country, Sri Lanka.”
