Pressure on Director General for not registering the Qatar Charity

0

The Director General of the Secretariat of Non-Governmental Organizations has come under pressure for not giving registration to the Qatar Charity Organization, which is listed as a banned organization in this country.

Accordingly, it has been revealed through unofficial sources of the Non-Governmental Organizations Secretariat that there is an attempt to confirm this registration by any means necessary by removing the current Director General.

This Qatar charity has not yet been removed from the list of banned institutions, which was banned according to the Central Bank’s recommendations for supporting or facilitating extremist or terrorist activities as well as the process of disbursing funds.

In spite of this, various people had issued statements regarding the lifting of the ban on this Qatari charity organization in accordance with the agreements made with the Qatari government.

Even so, the Director General of the Secretariat of Non-Governmental Organizations has refused to accept the new registration in a background where even the flight ban imposed on the members of the concerned organization has not been lifted.

Due to this, various threats are being exerted regarding the registration of the Qatar Charity Institute by removing the concerned Director General from that position. However, attempts to contact the Director General of the Office of Non-Governmental Organizations to inquire about this failed.

On the 16th of last August in a press conference of the SJB party, Member of Parliament Mujibar Rahman of Samagi Jana Balawegaya commented on the Qatar Charity Institute, which has been named as a banned organization.

Qatar Charity Institute has spent nearly two million dollars monthly for the development of infrastructure for refugee children in Sri Lanka. Mr. Mujibar Rahman says that this ban has been done without any necessity.
