Mahinda Amaraweera and Nimal Siripala have been removed from all their posts held in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party states that this decision was taken due to accepting the ministerial positions contrary to the general decision of the party.
Accordingly, the party chairman issued a statement signed by former president Maithripala Sirisena this afternoon.

Regarding the obtaining of ministerial posts by the members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party
At the last Central Committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, it was decided to remain in the Opposition in Parliament and support the Government as a party only for the good decisions taken for the people.
The Central Committee unanimously decided that if any Member of Parliament obtains a Ministerial post contrary to that decision, he should be removed from all posts held within the SLFP.
Accordingly, members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party who obtain government ministerial posts will be removed from all positions held in the party.
