A woman who came to Sri Lanka after working in New Zealand for three years has been stabbed to death by her husband.
That was within two days of her arrival in the country.
The husband had stabbed her sister and a friend several times at the time of the incident and they are currently in a critical condition receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital, police said.
The husband then slit his throat, jumped into a well and tried to commit suicide. He is currently receiving treatment at the Gampaha Hospital.
The stabbing had taken place last night at a house in the Webada area in the Weliweriya Police Division.
The deceased woman is 33 years old and the husband is 37 years old. Police say he was an employee of a motorcycle company.
The deceased woman left for a job in New Zealand in 2019 shortly after her marriage. Investigations have revealed that a family dispute has arisen between the two as she has promised to bring her husband to New Zealand but has not fulfilled her promise. According to the police, the stabbing took place as the dispute escalated.
