The World Bank’s Deputy Chairman for South Asia, Hartwig Schaefer, has said that Sri Lanka is ready to provide emergency assistance to those affected by the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
He has said this after the discussions held in the United States yesterday with the Minister of Finance of Sri Lanka, the Governor of the Central Bank and others.
Mr. Hartwig Schaefer further stated that a positive discussion was held yesterday on the measures to be taken to resolve the economic crisis in the country.
“At the World Bank, we are particularly concerned about the impact of the current crisis on the poor and vulnerable, and are ready to provide emergency assistance for essential medicines and health supplies, nutrition and education.
Today we had a good discussion with the Minister of Finance of Sri Lanka Ali Sabri and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Weerasinghe on the measures needed to resolve the economic crisis, to assist in stability and recovery and to protect the people at risk. The World Bank’s Deputy Chairman for the South Asian Region added.
