A large quantity of diesel has been spilled due to a leak in the diesel tank of a fuel transport train following an accident involving a passenger transport train parked at the Rambukkana railway station.
The accident took place at around 4.00 am today.
The passenger train was parked without passengers at the time of the accident and investigations have revealed that it was driven without a driver.
According to the railway authorities, a fault in the brakes has caused the train to run without a driver.
The carriages and fuel tanks were damaged in the accident. The railway station was also badly damaged.
Railway authorities say that a special investigation is being carried out in this regard.
