MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated in Parliament today that he has decided to act as the Deputy Speaker.
Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that the post would be accepted only until the end of April and that he would not accept any of the privileges of the post of Deputy Speaker during that period.
Ranjith Siyambalapitiya represents the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He had submitted his resignation letter to the President after the party decided to act independently in Parliament.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had rejected the resignation, saying that the post of Deputy Speaker was an independent one and that he should continue to hold the post as it was appointed by Parliament.
