Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe received his letter of appointment as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka from President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House in Colombo yesterday.
In addition to the Governor of the Central Bank, the new Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mr. K. M. M. Siriwardena also received his letter of appointment from the President yesterday.
The new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr.
Nandalal Weerasinghe has extensive experience in the financial sector, having served as the Alternative Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund and for some time as the Director of Economic Research at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
He has also been the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Nandalal Weerasinghe also served as an External Lecturer for the Postgraduate Degree in Economics at the University of Colombo and as an Economist in Malaysia and Australia.
New Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Mr. Siriwardena has been the Alternative Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund for Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
He also served as the Director General of the Public Finance Department of the Ministry of Finance and as the Additional Director General of the Department of International Planning.
Mr. K. M. M. Siriwardena is scheduled to assume duties at the Finance Ministry in Colombo today.
