Consumers across the country have been complaining of severe shortages of essential medicines for days.
Consumers also say that only one or two drugs from the prescription list can be obtained from a pharmacy after a prescription has been issued and that some pharmacies do not even have paracetamol.
When inquired about this, a leading spokesman at the Colombo City Hall stated that in addition to medicines, there is a severe shortage of medical equipment.
He said that prescriptions are taken from patients on the basis of subsequent importation of some expensive medical equipment and as a result both pharmacies and patients are severely inconvenienced.
