A group of school children who were on a picnic was returning to their school when a bus veered off the road in the Hinguruwatta area in Walasmulla this evening, injuring about 20 students.
The victims are a group of school children in Katuwana. Police said that both male and female students were among the injured. Police stated that no one was seriously injured and that there were only minor injuries.
About 30 students were on the bus at the time of the accident and several teachers and parents were also in the bus.
According to the police, the accident had taken place when the bus had run out of control of the driver due to the brakes not working and had veered off the road and collided with a mound of soil.
